Political Correspondent

The Irish Times, Ireland's leading independent quality news publishing business, wishes
to recruit for the position of Political Correspondent.

The Political Correspondent will be based in Leinster House and will work as part of the political team to enhance the reputation of The Irish Times as the home of authoritative political journalism.

S/he will be able to work in a fast, accurate and efficient manner, under deadline and other pressures. An ability to deliver - at high speed - breaking news, analysis and commentary for all digital platforms is essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively within a small team, while liaising closely with the News Desk. The ability to cultivate and maintain a network of contacts within the political system is essential.

Applicants will demonstrate a high degree of personal initiative and a capacity to contribute to all digital platforms including social, audio and video.

The successful candidate will have a record of high achievement in the coverage of politics, a comprehensive knowledge of political institutions and those working within them, and a thorough understanding of the administrations in the Republic and Northern Ireland.

S/he will be able to demonstrate a record of originating exclusive news stories and providing informed and incisive analysis and commentary, explaining the relevance and complexity of political issues and decision-making.
