The core activity of The Irish Times has evolved from a six-day print publication to a seven-day multi-platform news publisher with a market leading position in the development of subscriptions and in maximising digital revenues. We focus on producing quality content for our readers, providing media solutions for customers and we continue to grow and evolve in a fast paced changing media landscape.

We would like to appoint a UX and Design Lead.  The successful candidate will be the senior designer and team lead for our UX and Design Team.

Reporting to the Head of Product Innovation and Development, the successful candidate will work as part of a cross-functional agile design team to implement product enhancements and improvements for user facing applications and internal systems for The Irish Times.

The UX and Design Lead will guide the definition, adoption, and review of best practice UX and design standards, the promotion of customer-centric design and ensuring usability considerations are incorporated into product decisions.  The person appointed will work with the team of designers through the entire development life cycle and collaborate with the Software Development Lead, the wider technology department and internal stakeholders in developing and executing new site features and applications.

Candidates will be have previous experience as a visual UX/UI designer working on web and mobile applications and proficiency in the standard tools of the design trade; e.g. Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, Invision etc.   An excellent understanding of UI Product Design and User Experience practices and proficiency in HTML, CSS, SASS/SCSS and Javascript is required.   A third level qualification in a related discipline is desirable.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills and an ability to work in a collaborative way.  S/he will have the ability to foster a creative and efficient team working environment.
