SEK-Dublin International School: educating for the world

Education is not limited to the classroom. Students grow personally, academically and professionally in multicultural contexts

At SEK-Dublin, students grow personally, academically and professionally in multicultural contexts, collaborating and competing with young people from around the world

Education can only be understood from a global, international perspective. The purpose, approach, activities, topics and content of learning experiences must be geared toward a connected world that is constantly changing and transforming. International experiences and multilingual learning are crucial for students’ education.

Education is not limited to the classroom. Students grow personally, academically and professionally in multicultural contexts, collaborating and competing with young people from around the world. International education contributes to students’ all-round development as people and as future citizens of the world.

Our international vocation is seen both in the stays at schools abroad and in the teaching of international programmes at our school in Ireland or in collaboration with other universities and supranational entities.

Studying at SEK International Schools is more than simply going to school. It means establishing today foundations for learning and self-development in the future, thanks to an educational system devised in and for the 21st century. SEK International Schools prepare our students to successfully confront the challenges of a society that is constantly changing.

Educational principles: rigour, balance and bilingualism

The SEK Educational System is based on knowledge acquisition through the exploration of concepts, research and the development of competencies that encourage critical thought and creativity. SEK International students learn all those strategies that will permit them, throughout their lives, to be autonomous, self-assured and able to learn independently.

The demands of the SEK educational system and a rigorous assessment model focused on improvement allow us to guarantee the highest possible academic attainment from our students. As part of our students’ all-round development, we offer a balanced education that especially values sports, the development of technology skills, and those related to social and emotional intelligence, community service and artistic expression.

That is why, learning at SEK-Dublin International School is more than simply going to school. It is a learning experience that fosters the development of students’ intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills and affords them an international perspective which is essential in today’s world.

SEK-Dublin is located in an exclusive setting, between the towns of Bray and Greystone and just 30km from Dublin. The school blends traditional architecture with the most cutting-edge technology in a space spanning more than 250,000sq m, with sports facilities and extensive green areas where children learn while having fun.

SEK-Dublin International School teaches secondary education (from 12 to 16) with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Baccalaureate (16 to 19) with the IB Diploma Programme (DP). SEK-Dublin was the first school in Ireland to be certified by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to teach its Middle Years and Diploma programmes.

IB teaching and learning emerge from conceiving education as something on the which people work together to build meaning and understand the world. This is represented as an interaction combining asking questions (inquiry), practical work (action) and thought (reflection), this constructivist approach fosters open classrooms where different opinions and perspectives are highly valued. Our main objective is the development of intelligence and values. Students plan and carry out their own work using a variety of teaching methods.

SEK-Dublin International School boasts spacious and bright facilities in Co Wicklow, between the sea and the mountains. With the charm of Belvedere Hall, built in 1856, and state-of-the-art buildings designed to complement the facilities, it offers an ideal environment for learning.

Founded in 1892, and currently with schools in Spain, the Alps (France), Dublin, Qatar and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), SEK Education Group combines leadership, teaching innovation and more than 130 years of tradition and history. SEK-Dublin opened its doors in 1981; since then more than 4,000 students between the ages of 12 and 18 have been taught by its Irish and Spanish team. The school offers next-generation learning technology, the chance to live at our boarding halls or with carefully vetted local families, and a syllabus that meets SEK Schools’ rigorous quality standards.

We are aware that education does not only take place in the classroom. Therefore, SEK-Dublin International School offers numerous and varied extracurricular and cultural activities that ensure students’ all-round personal and academic development.

All of this affords an exceptional added value to an experience that, without a doubt, contributes to students’ all-round development as future citizens.
