Presented by junior and senior counsel who are specialist legal practitioners of the Employment Bar Association, the course takes place online from October to April in 1.25-hour sessions allowing professionals from all corners of Ireland and beyond to participate.
This advanced diploma provides participants with practical in-depth knowledge of the issues affecting the employment relationship, from recruitment to termination. The course covers a wide range of topics, including the practical application in the workplace of matters such as disciplinary procedures, grievance procedures, remote working, protected disclosures and bullying and harassment in the workplace.
Through King’s Inns’ Virtual Learning Environment, extensive course notes are provided on the everchanging demands in the employment sphere. The assignment is based on solving problems and handling complex issues in workplace situations.

As well as being the designer and lead lecturer for this course, McGowan is a barrister based at The Bar of Ireland. She specialises in labour, equality and employment law with particular expertise in workplace investigations, and is also an accredited mediator with the Centre of Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).
The course will be delivered in an online format, with most lectures delivered via live Zoom (lecture recordings available for streaming after class is over). Interactive elements such as live Q&A sessions will take place via live Zoom and will not be recorded. There will be up to two opportunities during the academic year to attend live events at King’s Inns, in the form of a Q&A session and a live mock Labour Court hearing.
King’s Inns is built on networking and engagement. Over the year we invite students to attend and participate in various social events, fireside chats and talks. Events take place either online or in-person. All of this contributes to the learning experience that is King’s Inns.
The course takes place over 20 weeks from October to April, with lectures on Thursdays from 8.30am-9.45am. The course fee is €2,550. To be awarded the Advanced Diploma, a participant must complete one written assessment successfully.
There are no admission requirements for this course. However, a place on the highly sought-after course is not secured until the course fee is received in full.
