Leaders from architecture and construction came together at the Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2022 showcase. With an impressive 45 entrants, this year’s winners were announced during a hybrid event with a live audience in attendance at The Mansion House, Dublin and others attending an interactive virtual ceremony hosted by comedian Colm O’Regan.

Now in their fifth year, the Awards were supported by leading practices and construction companies showcasing their work over the past 18 months.

The supreme award, Building of the Year, sponsored by Walls Construction, went to the Padel Club by Healy Partners Architects.

Three trophies were handed out on the night to Reddy Architecture and Urbanism Group. Lisa Smyth, associate director, said: “We are proud to win Best Educational, and Residential Building as well as Architectural Practice of the Year. The calibre of the entries was exceptional and showcased some great work. We thank our clients for their continued collaboration and support.”

Another winning firm was Wejchert Architects. Director Brian Glaholm; “This award is a credit to the vision of St Jarlaths Diocesan Trust; the expertise and professionalism of the design team; the skill and tireless efforts of the contractor, subcontractors and suppliers; and the various crafts people who contributed to this project.”

They were joined on the podium by Brennan | Furlong Architects, whose practice director, Seamus Furlong, said; “It was great to meet up with industry colleagues again in person and delighted to pick up an award on behalf of our clients and everyone who helped to deliver the project.” Winner of the House Extension Refurbishment Award.

O’Mahony Pike Architects made the winner’s list as well. Conor Kinsella, director of O’Mahony Pike Architects, said: “10-12 Hanover Quay is an excellent example of how historic fabric can be retained and reused in a sensitive and imaginative way, forming part of a contemporary project, while contributing to the sense of place and the industrial aesthetic of the docklands. Kennedy Wilson have created an alternative, distinctive type of office space in a central, docklands location, which has great waterfront views, a choice of entrances, and a variety of types of space including a roof terrace, large open plan areas within the warehouse, and more compact floor plates within the new glass box. The project is a collaboration between O’Mahony Pike and MOLA Architecture.”

James O’Toole, construction director, Walls Construction, said: “It was fantastic to see so many colleagues and clients in person again, celebrating the many achievements of the Irish construction industry. Walls Construction is delighted and extremely proud to be supporting the Building & Architects of the Year Awards. Well done and congratulations to all nominees and winners.”

Another of this year’s sponsors was Ethos Engineering.
