Cadence is creating a culture of innovation through excellence

Strong financial results driven by employees focused on making an impact and building a high-performance culture

Cadence is a leading EDA and intelligent system sesign provider delivering tools, software, and IP to help companies build great products that connect the world

Now is an exciting time to be at Cadence. Cadence employees’ work is foundational in the creation of today’s hottest technology that is changing the way we live, work and play. Their innovation enables the design of electronic products, and employees join the company to help solve challenging technology problems and drive future growth. For Cadence, this growth is being fueled by a data-driven economy propelled by trends in mobile, cloud, edge computing, automotive and machine learning.

“Employees are motivated by the opportunity to be at the forefront of solving technology’s toughest challenges and working alongside the industry’s leading innovators,” says Tina Jones, senior vice president of Global Human Resources.

Cadence employees are excited to work on a winning team with exceptional business results. Since Lip-Bu Tan joined as CEO in 2009, Cadence shares have soared more than 3,000 per cent, from its 2008 low of $2.42 to $78.64 today. The company has experienced ten consecutive years of revenue growth with record revenue levels in the last five years and a 60 per cent increase in stock price in 2019 alone. And once on board, these employees tend to stay—the turnover rate is low, with over 25 per cent of the company's 8,000 employees with the company for at least 10 years.

“Cadence employees like working here because of the friendly environment, the great teamwork and the chance to solve challenging problems. We have an incredible team and I want to thank them for their dedication to our customers and our culture, and for their support in making us a great place to work,” says Brendan Pollard, IT director and Ireland site manager.

Building a high-performing team

To meet the challenging needs of leading customers, as the industry moves to machine learning and artificial intelligence, Cadence has focused on finding new ways to elevate its workforce. The company believes a high-performing culture is built by motivated and dedicated employees.

Their high-performance culture leadership framework provides employees with guides, self assessments and learning opportunities to excel in their role. They emphasize the importance of building effective teams, innovating and delivering high-quality products that delight their customers.

For Cadence, building effective teams includes creating a sense of shared community. Leaders are focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives for female and emerging talent, including networking, mentoring and development programs. Charitable giving is an important area of inspiration for employees, who have 40 hours of paid time off to volunteer for causes they are passionate about. Last year during Cadence’s annual Season of Giving, a coordinated global volunteering campaign, with employees from around the world volunteering over 9,500 hours with 60 charities.

Through this campaign, Cadence Ireland has partnered with many organisations over the years including The Capuchin Day Centre, Ozanam House, Purple House Cancer Support, Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, Temple Street foundation, Alone, Barretstown House, Cats Aid, Saint Vincent de Paul, Aoibheann's Pink Tie and Inner City Helping Homeless. Cadence Ireland employees are proud to give back to a variety of demographics and to make a positive impact to others in need.

“We’re doing all of these things because we believe employees thrive in a dynamic environment where giving back, empowering each other to do great work, embracing diversity and growing together make Cadence a great place to build a career,” explains Jones. “We know it really does drive the best results for our company and our customers.”

Innovation starts with employees

According to research done by the Great Place to Work Institute, most companies only have two employees who experience innovation for every six who do not. In its Great Place to Work survey, Cadence has almost six employees who say they experience innovation for every two who do not, practically the reverse of the norm. Over the past ten years, Cadence has rejuvenated its innovation abilities to the point that it creates six to eight new products each year, resulting in over 20 new products in the past three years.

This is the result of problem solving by Cadence’s highly skilled and long-tenured employees, as well as new talent brought in from outside. All told, Cadence has built a culture where the clear majority of employees create, are connected and contribute. This 'Innovation by All' culture far exceeds what employees at typical technology companies experience. Cadence is further promoting its 'Innovation by All' culture with programs where employees in many global locations have structured programs to develop their skills, network and present their ideas directly to senior executives.

CHiPS has sponsored Cadence running, tag rugby, football, and other sporting tournaments.

“Cadence has an incredible, winning culture that is reflected in the people I meet across the globe. But each country is given the local autonomy to shape the experience for their employees,” says Pollard. “Here in Ireland, we have worked hard to create a culture where everyone belongs and everyone matters.”
