Simon Walton, the MD of Ballet and Opera Ireland and the producer for this staging in Dublin, is enthused about the forthcoming performances.

“La Traviata, the most popular opera in the world, will not have been produced in Dublin for about six years. I was looking for something really special and a little different when I heard word of the overwhelming reception of La Traviata at the Festival Pucciniano in 2017," he says

"Extensive enquiries revealed the fact that the performance was by the Novaya Opera of Moscow accompanied by their own orchestra and performed in the spectacular surroundings of a new set design by Guiliano Spinelli."

"It transpired that the set itself is owned by a theatre in Lucca in Italy, The Theatre Azienda Teatro del Giglio. This theatre was contacted by phone and email and it was eventually agreed that I would visit Lucca in June 2019 to see the set and to arrange a contract to rent it for Dublin next November. This was finalised and arrangements are now in place to transport this amazing set to Dublin to be used across the 5 shows at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and then to be returned to Lucca"."
