Aircraft lessor Aercap has ordered five extra 787-9 Dreamliners from US manufacturer Boeing, the company confirmed on Tuesday.
The transaction means the Dublin-based group now has 125 787s on its books, either owned or on order, making it the world’s biggest customer for the long-haul Boeing jet.
Speaking at Farnborough International Airshow, where the deal was confirmed, Peter Andersen, Aercap chief commercial officer, said the move strengthened his company’s position as the leading Dreamliner customer.
He added that the order was part of Aercap’s strategy, to invest in the “new technology assets” that would aid it in supporting its airline customers.

Ihssane Mounir, Boeing senior vice-president, sales and marketing, noted that the Dreamliner was aviation’s most-used long-haul aircraft.
Mr Mounir said that the jet’s fuel efficiency meant it was playing a “major role in sustaining, reopening and pioneering new routes in the long-haul travel market”.
Dublin-headquartered, New-York-listed Aercap is the world’s biggest aircraft and aviation engine lessor, with 300 customers around the world.
