Penneys has completed the €10 million refurbishment of its flagship Dublin store after three months, adding new self-service checkouts and a host of other features to the 95,700 sq unit on Mary Street, Dublin 1.
The Primark-owned retailer, part of the Associated British Foods group, has also expanded the Nails beauty salon on the ground floor of the building, added new flooring and signage across the three floors of the shop along with new energy efficient LED lighting.
Beginning early in the summer, work on the refurbishment took place at night to allow the flagship shop, Penneys first in Dublin, to remain open during the day.
Damien O’Neill, head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, said the revamp had given the property a “new lease of life”.
“We are continuing to invest in our Irish retail network and are looking forward to completing a refurbishment in our store in Artane, Co. Dublin next month, giving even more shoppers the opportunity to experience the best of fashion, beauty, and homeware at Penneys.”
The high street retailer said the €10 million investment is part of a wider €250 million commitment to overhauling its Irish stores and distribution facilities over the next decade.
Accounts filed in July by Primark Ltd, Primark’s main trading entity in Ireland which operates stores under the Penneys brand, revealed the company generated profits of €394 million before tax in the year to September 17th, 2022, a more than 20-fold increase on the previous year.
