A & L Goodbody's new team will target money laundering

Mr Carroll is a senior partner in the commercial department and advises clients regarding corporate finance, mergers, acquisitions and shipping finance.

The other members of the unit are Ms Paula Reid, who has written extensively on money laundering, Mr Paul Dobbyn, who regularly gives presentations on all aspects of financial services compliance and Mr Marcus Beresford, a senior partner with A & L Goodbody, with experience in commercial litigation.

Lionbridge Technologies, the provider of translation services to the IT industry, has appointed Ms Sheena Dempsey as general manager for its localisation operation in Blackrock, Co Dublin, where 100 software localisation staff are employed.

Ms Dempsey, a project manager, has been in the localisation industry for more than 10 years working for companies such as Siemens and Stream International.

Mr Eoin O'Driscoll, the former managing director of Stratus Ireland, has become the vice-president of international operations for Ascend Communications. Ascend acquired Stratus Ireland earlier this year as part of a worldwide takeover. Ascend is a California-based telecommunications carrier and Internet service provider.

EDS Ireland, the IT service provider, has appointed Mr Peter C. Donnelly as managing director. Mr Donnelly was previously managing director of Digital Equipment Ireland.

Mr Donnelly began his career with IBM before joining Digital in 1979 and held several senior management positions.

Mr Brian Jordan has joined Sun Microsystems as senior solution architect. Mr Jordan has worked for Digital/Compaq for the past 11 years as a technology consultant on large open systems procurements and participated in many of Digital's Unix-based projects in the Republic.

DTZ Sherry FitzGerald, the commercial auctioneering firm, has appointed Ms Jacqui McKinnell as a surveyor in its consultancy department.

A chartered surveyor, Ms McKinnell, will provide advice to DTZ Sherry FitzGerald's clients in the corporate sector.

Mr Jonathan Ross joins the company as a surveyor to work in its development land department. He will also concentrate on providing development advice to DTZ Sherry FitzGerald's clients.

Mr John Rheam has taken over the management of African Gold's Inez mine in Zimbabwe. Mr Rheam was most recently general manager of Lonrho's gold operations in Zimbabwe. His responsibility with African Gold will be to upgrade gold production from the three shafts at Inez.

Mr Simon Tyrrell has been appointed sales representative with Woodford Bourne, incorporating Mitchells Wholesale. The company specialises in the distribution of wines from family-owned estates. Mr Tyrrell will be working with the hotel and restaurant sector in central and north Co Dublin.

Ms Aisling Pierce has become human resources manager at Barclays Bank after leaving the same position with the Irish Nationwide Building Society.

Mr Pat Brennan has become corporate banking director after leaving his position as head of corporate credit with Barclays in London.
