The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) has joined the information age with the introduction of a CD ROM. Containing 6,000 pages of technical and legislative information, Chariot '98 was developed by the ICAI for distribution to its 10,000 members.

The database includes up-to-date financial reporting standards details, statements of standard accounting practice, auditing standards and guidelines and the current texts of the Irish and UK Companies Acts. A search system makes the database readily navigable as each category is broken down into component parts.

The project was sponsored by AIB Corporate Banking and supported by the Irish Accountancy Educational Trust. It was initiated in response to a recent survey that found more than half of ICAI practising members already use CD ROM.
