Galway airport is to invest £5 million (€6.35 million) "to improve airport facilities and provide better services for travellers", according to the airport authorities.
The investment fund is to be made up of £600,000 from adult passengers, who will be charged a £5 "development fee" on outbound flights from September, £3.75 million from the State, and £650,000 from the Galway corporate business sector, according to the airport authorities.
The airport also hopes to increase flights between Galway and Dublin, and initiate flights to the UK.
