Apple and Google may have come up with new internet TV devices in the fight for the upper hand in the living room, but in at least one place their rivalry will not play out – Amazon.
The world’s biggest e-commerce company has barred sales of the two companies’ streaming TV devices from its store. The move is part of an attempt by Amazon to promote its own video service and is the latest sign of fractures in the entertainment landscape. Amazon did not name Apple and Google but said it would only sell devices for playing internet video on a TV if they carried its in-house streaming video service, known as Prime Video. The Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast do not carry the service but it is available on the Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation games consoles. – Copyright The Financial Times Ltd 2015
