LLOYDS TSB yesterday unveiled a formal £19.8 billion sterling (€31 billion) bid for Abbey National. The offer, of 15 Lloyds shares and 260 pence cash for each Abbey National share, valuing Abbey at £19.8 billion sterling.

Abbey National said it would meet Lloyds to discuss the bid, but noted that it had rejected the same offer in December.
