The web is not short of blogs from venture capitalists and other financiers who support early stage technology and internet companies. Perhaps even more than any other aspect of the blogosphere, though, the high-profile writers tend to be from the US.

One notable exception is Nic Brisbourne, a partner in London- and Cambridge-based VC shop DFJ Esprit. Brisbourne's day job was in the news this week when Esprit Capital Partners announced that legendary Silicon Valley VC firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson had taken a minority stake in the company.

Esprit has plenty of experience of the Irish technology scene, having backed WBT before its sale to Horizon Technology last year, and has also invested in Seán Bolger's Imagine telecoms group and Belfast software firm Lagan Technologies.

Among Brisbourne's favoured blogging topics are virtual worlds (he's a fan of Second Life but is happy to question its success), the buyout cycle (he's predicting a big flow of funds into European VC), and funding for start-ups.

He is also a regular guest at some of the more interesting tech conferences in Britain and Europe, with his reports providing an excellent feel for what happened for non-attendees. Of course like almost every blogger these days, Brisbourne loves writing about Facebook - on everything from why it is attracting such a crazy valuation to how it can be used as a business tool in large organisations.

The Equity Kicker covers such a range of topics that anybody with an interest in the technology industry will enjoy reading it.

For anyobody seeking funding for a start-up, it provides an essential insight into the thinking of a leading European venture capitalist.
