Former chairman of Telecom Eireann and former managing partner of KPMG, Mr Ronald Bolger, has joined Am-beo, a Galway-based provider of billing software, as chairman.
Mr Bolger, who sits on the board of several technology firms, was chairman of Telecom Eireann from 1992 to 1999 and oversaw the KPN and Telia investments in the firm.
Am-beo, which received £3 million (#3.81 million) in venture capital funding in March, develops billing software that enables network operators and internet service providers to charge users for data as well as voice traffic.
Mr Bolger said he joined the firm because of its technology vision and the rapid growth in the billing and customer care market for telecoms operators.
"When you look at the service opportunities being created by the rollout of next generation networks, the strategic use of rating and reconciliation platforms has become absolutely critical for business success."
Am-beo recently launched its rating and reconciliation software Rate-Rec (version 1.1) in London. This product facilitates traditional voice telephony as well as IP (internet protocol) voice and data services. Mr Bolger was chairman of Gradient Solutions, a Dublin-based e-commerce venture acquired last year by US firm Sabre for a reported £20 million.
He is also chairman of the Financial Services Industry Association and deputy chairman of the EBS.
