Joy was quickly followed by financial misery for parents Sam and Alison Bennett. The couple have two-year-old triplets and all the money woes that come with the bundles of joy. Your Money or Your Life (Wednesday, BBC2, 8 p.m.) comes to the rescue of the couple who have been yo-yoing in and out of debt for the past two years.

But the programme shows even the parents have tendency for toys - Sam and Alison complain they cannot afford a new home despite buying computer games, DVDs and new sofas as well as spending £200 a month on cigarettes.

Angela and Ronnie live happily in Garristown but Angela works in Beaumont hospital, Dublin, and Ronnie works at the airport.

Rapid economic growth and social change over the past 10 years has opened up more choice and freedom for young people.
