Profits at the Carphone Warehouse mobile phone group doubled last year to £1.9 million (#2.4 million). It reported 178,500 new connections last year, 128,500 of which were pre-paid. Commenting on the results, Irish managing director, Mr Mervyn O'Callaghan, said growth was expected to continue in all sectors of the mobile market this year and it was planning to open a further eight shops this year.
