Shares in Celtic football club jumped by 15 per cent yesterday as the club proceeded to the next stage of the Champions League by beating Manchester United.
The result should translate into millions of extra revenue in gate receipts, television rights, prize money and sponsorship contracts. Dermot Desmond has a 40 per cent stake in the club.
Yesterday one expert speculated that Celtic's victory over Manchester United could be worth more than £15.5 million (€22.93 million).
David Glen of PricewaterhouseCoopers said Celtic could expect to make an amount similar to the £15.5 million Rangers banked when they reached the last 16.
He said: "We do have a comparator with Rangers last season. They actually published in their accounts last year the impact of reaching the last 16. They grossed about £15.5 million and Celtic have now achieved the same feat. Normally, just getting into the league stages you are somewhere about £8-10 million.
"It just depends how long they can keep that run going."
