The investors selling their Norwich Union shares to raise money for Christmas will be interested to hear that the Chief Inspector of Taxes has initiated discussions with the insurer's agents over the treatment of the sale of these shares for capital gains tax. No tax is due on these shares yet and many people who got free shares will not have to pay any capital gains tax on selling their shares if the amount falls below the allowance of £1,000 for an individual and £2,000 for a married couple.
