Development LandA low density housing site in Westport, Co Mayo, has come on the market through joint agents Hamilton Osborne King and ERA Moran Auctioneers with a guide price of €11 million.
The large greenfield site extends to 7.08 hectares (17.5 acres) and has magnificent views over Westport town, Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick. It is accessed from Lodge Road and is within easy walking distance of the town centre.
The land has a residential zoning under the Mayo County Council Development Plan 2003 and, according to Brian Moran of ERA Moran Auctioneers, it is ideal for an exclusive housing development. The general expectation is that the planners will allow six-to-eight houses per acre.
Paddy Cusack of HOK says that various route options are currently being considered for the Westport Relief Road. When completed, it will link the Castlebar Road with the Newport Road, easing traffic congestion in the town centre and making the site more desirable from a development prospective. Westport is benefiting from an increasing level of industrial activity, as well as good shopping.
The new IDA Park, currently under construction, is located beside the site going for sale, as is Allergan, the multinational pharmaceutical company which employs 700.
