Another trader on George’s St decides it’s time to sell up

After a number of successful sales on Dublin’s South Great George’s Street, another long-term trader is planning to avail of the strong market to sell his retail premises.

Owner-occupier Bill Brennan, who has been running the Camera Exchange store at 63 South Great George's Street since 1989, is planning to retire once he has found a buyer for the premises.

Daniel McLaughlin of agent Bannon is quoting €750,000 for the three-storey-over-basement mid-terrace Victorian building opposite the South City Market which has an overall floor area of 235.8sq m (2,538sq ft) including 62sq m (699sq ft) at street level.

South Great George’s Street and adjoining streets have seen a huge pick-up in business in recent years, particularly in leisure and entertainment following the opening of new bars, restaurants and cafés.

Mr McLaughlin says the Camera Exchange will appeal to both investors and owner-occupiers given the scarcity of shops becoming available on the letting market.

The Bannon agency recently let the ground and basement of 23 South Great George’s Street to Complete Entertainment Exchange (CeX), the international technology and home entertainment retailer with 235 stores including 25 in Ireland.

It will be paying a rent of about €55,000 for its latest store which has a floor area of 82.3sq m (886sq ft).
