A new four-star boutique hotel on the site of the former Twelve Pins hotel at Barna in Galway is to open for business next spring, or more precisely, on the 12th of February at 12.12pm.
The €20 million hotel, to be named The Twelve, will have 48 bedrooms, the now-customary spa, as well as its own bakery (where breads and pastries are cooked on-site), a champagne bar, top-class West restaurant to seat 90 diners and a private diningroom for weddings or business gatherings.
The hotel is being built by property developer Stephen Harris, who was born in Barna, and who also owns the Racing Lodge hotel on the Dublin Road in Galway.
The promoters say that The Twelve will be more than a place to eat and sleep - it will be "thoughtful, elegant, quirky, intelligent, cheeky, lacking in pretence and fun".
It will replace the Twelve Pins hotel which first opened for business in the 1880s. It had a particularly popular restaurant.
The village of Barna has been greatly enlarged in recent years through the development of a high class residential and retail scheme by O'Malley Construction Co.
