Global firm to buy large block

A GLOBAL company already based in Dublin is planning to avail of the fall in commercial property values by purchasing a substantial office block in the city. Peter Stapleton, managing director of Lisney, has circulated office agents and developers looking for 20,000sq m (215,280sq ft) of offices to buy, preferably in the city centre along a transport node.

The agency has not identified the company involved but a building of that size could be expected to accommodate around 1,750 workers. The firm will consider an existing building or one that has not yet been completed. Mr Stapleton said he has already had a number of calls about the enquiry but, from experience, he knew that people would think for a while before responding. “In this market I believe the opportunities will get better over the next 12 months.”

Louise Donnelly of DTZ Sherry FitzGeald, who acted for the landlord in the Belfry scheme, said the sale was a significant one in a declining market.
