Developer pays over €17 million for D2 hotel

A property developer has paid over €17 million for the Earl of Kildare Hotel at the junction of Nassau Street and Kildare Street in Dublin 2. It traded up to 1994 as Powers Hotel and overlooks the grounds of Trinity College. The 33-bedroom hotel is based in five interconnecting buildings, one of which is listed for preservation. The overall site extends to 650sq m (6,997sq ft). The proceeds of the sale will be shared by a UK family who held the freehold and businessman Pat Leneghan who held the lease. He also owns Sarah Cullen's bar and restaurant in Rathfarnham and The Palace nightclub in Navan. Paul Collins of CB Richard Ellis handled the sale.

Creche makes around €2.75m

Hooke & MacDonald Commercial has secured around €2.75 million for a crèche at the Eden Gate Commercial Centre in Delgany, Co Wicklow. It was bought by Park Academy Creche and Montessori. The facility, developed by the Cosgrave Group, has 852sq m (9,171sq ft). There is also an extensive outdoor play area. The Eden Gate centre also has four offices which are let and six ground floor retail units, some of which are still available.

Serviced sites in Newbridge

Colm McEvoy Commercial in Newbridge is seeking €800,000 an acre for two remaining serviced sites at Oberstown Business Park in Naas, Co Kildare. The sites extend to one acre and 1.16 acres, and are expected to appeal to investors and firms planning to develop their own industrial, distribution or warehouse business units. Also in Co Kildare, William Harvey and Co and Coonan Real Estate Alliance are marketing the first phase of 17 warehousing/light industrial units at the new M4 Interchange Park along the old Maynooth Road north of Celbridge. The buildings being sold off plans range in size from 103-206sq m (1,109-2,217sq ft) and are priced from €297,500 to €605,000.

New MD at Savills HOK

Savills HOK has announced the appointment of Angus Potterton, right, as its new managing director from October 1st. He will replace Paul McNeive who has successfully completed his four-year term and will assume the role of director in the office division alongside Roland O'Connell. Aidan O'Hogan has been simultaneously re-elected as executive chairman. The company says that its turnover has grown by over 600 per cent and staff numbers by more than 360 per cent over the past 10 years.
