An 11-screen multiplex cinema will form part of the second phase of the Pavilions shopping centre in Swords, Co Dublin, which is due to be completed later this year.
The cinema is to be leased to Movies @, a company run by the Spurling and O'Gorman families who have a long and successful history in the cinema business in Dublin and the provinces.
The company recently opened the multiplex in Dundrum Town Centre and will have even more advanced facilities in Swords. The cinemas will accommodate up to 2,000 patrons and there are plans to replicate the popular VIP Executive Lounge which opened in Dundrum. The new €40 million addition to the Pavilions will add another 12,935sq m (150,000sq ft) of top class facilities, including 20 shops and restaurants. The extension is being developed by Intrust Properties Ltd, the property holding company of the Eircom Superannuation Scheme, which also owns the first phase of the Pavilions.
It opened in 2001 and is trading exceptionally well. The first phase extends to 46,450sq m (500,000sq ft) and has 65 shops, including anchors Dunnes Stores, Superquinn and TK Maxx. Hamilton Osborne King and Druker Fanning & Partners are the letting agents.
