The European Consumer Centre advises that if you go to any of the central banks in the other 11 euro-zone countries, you will not be charged for changing your Irish money to the currency of that country.

When you come back you can redeem any of the euro-zone currencies for Irish notes and coins free of charge from the Irish Central Bank, subject to a maximum of 50 bank notes or #1,000 per person per day.
