The Eirtext service allows users to obtain quotes in just a few simple steps using their mobile phone handset: press menu, select message, then choose create or write messages, type in "TES" for Telecom Eireann shares, press send/ok, key in "1744" and press send/ok. When the text message (SMS) is received, the most recent share quotes are sent within 10 seconds to the user's inbox from the Irish Stock Exchange.

The price quotes are updated every 20 minutes and the service is run in conjunction with NCB Stockbrokers. Users are charged 10p per message, the usual charge for sending an Eircell text message.

Gaelic fans will also be pleased to note that during the weekends, the latest GAA scores are available every 15 minutes using the GAA scoreline service.

Mobile phone users with 087 numbers follow the same procedure as above but type in GAA, then 1744. Eircell plans to develop the SMS service to include more options. The current service excludes Ready-to-Go users and may vary by handset.
