THE Margin's "could it happen here?" department brings news that the Scottish National Party has launched its own credit card, believing it will become a symbol "seen around the world".

The card, part of the worldwide Visa scheme, is the latest fundraising idea from the party and will be run in association with the American Beneficial Bank. It carries the party logo.

The SNP stands to benefit to the tune of a £5 royalty on each card issued and from a 0.25 per cent payment each time it is used.

What could be next? The Michael McDowell Affinity card? A Democratic Left Visa card? The Green Party's AMEX card? Who knows?
