Davy Stockbrokers has been named leading Irish brokerage firm in the Thomson Extel 2002 survey. The survey collects views and nominations from the investment community, surveying fund managers, analysts and finance directors at quoted companies.
The survey is largely conducted online. All votes received are weighted so that they reflect the views of firms rather than individuals within those firms.
The results are based on views from some 3,500 fund managers at 860 buyside firms in 42 countries. Together they represent assets under management of more than $11,000 trillion (€11,656 trillion). About 100,000 votes were cast in this year's survey.
There are 84 awards covering all equity sectors as well as economics and strategy, equity derivatives and fixed-income sectors.
In the Irish section, Davy Stockbrokers came first with 44.09 per cent of the vote. They were followed by Goodbody and NCB Stockbrokers, with 14.96 per cent and 12.45 per cent respectively.
British drinks group Diageo, owner of Guinness, was named as the leading pan-European quoted company for investor relations.
The top 10 Irish brokerage firms, in order, are: Davys, Goodbodys, NCB, ABN Amro, Merrion Capital, UBS Warburg, Morgan Stanley, Schroder Salomon Smith Barney, Credit Suisse First Boston and Goldman Sachs International.
