THE CHIEF executive of DCC Plc, Tommy Breen, received a total remuneration package of €1.5 million in the year to the end of March, according to its annual report.

Non-executive chairman of the company, Michael Buckley, received €201,000 in fees.

Mr Buckley was appointed chairman on May 2008, when the group’s founder, Jim Flavin, retired as executive chairman.

Mr Breen’s package compared with a total package of €1 million last year. He earned €677,000 in salary and €642,000 in bonuses. Total pension contributions were €189,000.

Chief financial officer Fergal O’Dwyer earned a total package of €756,000 during the year, up slightly on the €724,000 earned the previous year. Mr Flavin earned €158,000, down from €989,000 the previous year.

The total for the company’s executive directors during the year was €2.7 million, down from €2.8 million the previous year.

The total paid to the group’s non-executive directors during the year was €599,000, up from €452,000 the previous year. The group’s pre-tax profits for the year were €137.8 million, down from €181.7 million the previous year.

Non-executive director Bernard Somers received €93,000 during the year, up from €79,000 the previous year, while Maurice Keane received €77,000, up from €79,000 the previous year. David Byrne, appointed to the board on January 1st, 2009, earned €25,000 in the period to the end of March.

The report says the basic non-executive fee is €60,000, with extra payments made for membership of board committees. The chairman receives a total fee of €225,000 and the senior independent director €103,000.
