Dell's quarterly profits rise 26% Dell, the computer manufacturer with around 4,800 employees in Limerick and Bray, Co Wicklow, said last night its income for the three months to the end of October was $483 million (€464 million), up 26 per cent, not including a once-off charge. Revenue for the quarter rose 41 per cent to $6.8 billion (€6.5 billion), the company said. The charge, related to the purchase of Convergenet Technologies, totalled $194 million, bringing Dell's net earnings to $289 million.
Dell, which runs its European manufacturing from the Republic, said European revenue increased 22 per cent compared with the year-ago quarter.
The firm's country manager, Mr Tim McCarthy, predicted continued growth in its market share.
"Our recruitment drive continues. We plan to be over 5,000 - probably towards 5,300 - by the end of January," he added.
The company announced last month that its third-quarter results would be negatively affected by the higher-than-expected cost of random-access memory.
