Baileys, the world's biggest-selling cream liqueur, is trialling two new flavours in a bid to expand its share of the global spirits market. Its owner, drinks giant Diageo, said it was testing two flavours, mint chocolate and creme caramel.

The new products are on sale for a short period in Arizona and in UK airports owned by BAA, including Heathrow and Gatwick. In the run up to Christmas, it was also on sale in a UK supermarket chain.

Peter O'Conner, brand public relations director for Baileys, said it would be six months before a decision is made over whether to produce the drinks.

Neither flavours are on sale in Ireland, although the Irish are the biggest consumers of the drink per capita and it is produced in Dublin and Belfast for consumption in 130 countries.

In the year to the end of June, Diageo made 6.7 million nine-litre cases of Baileys, marginally up on the prior year. Net sales of Baileys worldwide declined 1 per cent, which Diageo attributed to inflated year-earlier figures and a slowdown in European pub sales.
