Dow falls but Nasdaq sets another record

Stocks were mixed yesterday as investors again collected profits from last week's rally

Stocks were mixed yesterday as investors again collected profits from last week's rally. A strong report on workers' productivity and selected strength in technology stocks enticed some buyers but failed to lift the broad market.

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 118.36 to close at 11,106.65. The decline was the Dow's steepest since October 25th.

Broader stock indicators were mixed. The Nasdaq set its 19th new closing record since October 29th, due largely to the soaring price of Internet search engine company Yahoo!

The Standard and Poor's 500 fell 14.17 to 1,409.17 and the Nasdaq composite index rose 29.51 to 3,575.52.
