Downing Street gets claws into press queries

Government press officers don't know how easy they have it

Government press officers don't know how easy they have it. Among the many duties imposed on one of Tony Blair's press officers is answering queries about Humphrey, the Downing Street moggie. According to the Financial Times, one Maggie O'Boyle's duties are listed in a press directory as "modernisation of parliament, drugs, ministers' and MPs' pay, allowances and pensions, special advisers, IT in government and Humphrey." According to one official there were rather more inquiries about the cat than about the modernisation of parliament.
