Dresdner Bank, Germany's second largest bank and one of the leading banking institutions in Europe, has built a financial risk management application using Irish company IONA Technologies' Orbix solution.

The application won the award for "Best implementation of a distributed application using object technology" at this year's COMDEX Internet and Object World in Frankfurt.

The solution, known as STARS, uses Orbix as the architecture to connect a range of different systems written for treasury instruments distributed throughout the company.
