It seems like interest rates are the constant focus of attention these days. Despite the upbeat mood in the US, the odds are still in favour of a marginal tightening of rates in the euro zone when the European Central Bank meets on Thursday.

Marks & Spencer: M&S interims tomorrow are expected to show continued misery at the group, with sales over the first six months down 7.8 per cent on a like-for-like basis and off nearly 12 per cent in the crucial clothing sector, despite what are likely to be reasonable returns from the group's Irish interests.

A profit warning last month braced analysts for pre-tax profits of £185£195 million sterling (€289305 million). But investors will want to know if things have improved and how expensive the company's promotional campaign will prove to be.
