A senior Coalition Minister has said he would like to see the criminal investigation into the banking crash concluded quickly and has also pledged to hold a public inquiry into who was responsible for the collapse.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin said those who made “reckless and outrageous” decisions behind closed doors should be accountable.

“I’d like to see an early determination of the investigations . . . people are confused and there is a lot of misinformation about it,” he said. “We haven’t had a full explanation about who was involved, who made the decisions and who was advising . . . and I do think that is necessary to get the full picture.”
