Data storage company EMC said yesterday it would cut 1,100 jobs, or 4 per cent of its worldwide workforce, to cut operating costs. There would not, however, be any redundancies among the 1,750 people at the EMC facility in Ovens, Co Cork, a spokesman of the Massachusetts-based firm said. EMC's founder and chairman emeritus Mr Richard Egan is the incoming US ambassador to Ireland.
