GREEN ENERGY developer Gaelectric has been the given the go- ahead for a €26 million wind farm in Co Tyrone, its second such project in the area in as many months.

The company said yesterday planners had given it permission to build a 15 megawatt (MW) wind farm at Inishative, near Pomeroy, Co Tyrone. It will consist of six wind turbines and, at full capacity, will generate enough electricity for about 8,000 households. It will cost just over €26 million to build.

Two months ago, Gaelectric secured planning permission for a 12.5 MW wind farm at Cregganconroe, also close to Pomeroy. Earlier, it also got approval for another 15MW facility at Carn Hill, Newtownabbey, Co Antrim. The total investment in the three wind farms will come to €77 million.

The company intends to begin work on all three early next year.
