Although the public may have mixed views on the Revenue Commissioners and how they go about their business, there are those who obviously regard our tax inspectors as high net worth individuals, who have more than just extensive powers to examine other people's bank accounts.

Perusing the latest edition of The Revenue Group Journal, the Margin was intrigued to see an advertisement exalting Revenue employees to consider investing in the upmarket St John's Westminster Development in London. Situated between the "Houses of Parliament, Tate Gallery and River Thames" the scheme was developed by Sean Mulryan's Ballymore Properties.

The advertisement says it is the world's "most desirable residential address". Prices for one-bedroom apartments start from £230,000. Two-bedroom apartments start from £399,000 and penthouses from a mere £1.9 million. And for good measure, the apartments are "supported by an exclusive range of services, including concierge, valet parking, chambermaid, porterage" and even laundry. What more could a taxman desire?
