A former managing director of the Packard Electric plant at Tallaght is to be paid £270,000 as part of an agreement reached with the company and the General Motors Corporation (GMC).
Mr James Donnellan, a financial controller who served as managing director of Packard Electric Ireland Ltd between 1991 and 1992, took legal action against the company and the GMC, of which Packard is a subsidiary.
In court yesterday, Mr Roddy Horan, for Mr Donnellan, of Nenagh, Co Tipperary (but presently with an address in Rotingen, Germany), said the matter had been resolved and merely required the judge to make, on consent, an order. Mr Justice O'Sullivan did so. Under the terms of the order, Packard is to pay Mr Donnellan £180,000 gross as compensation for the termination of his employment, and Packard and GMC are to pay him an additional £90,000 damages for negligence and misrepresentation. Both defendants are also to pay Mr Donnellan's solicitors £25,000 for the costs of the proceedings.
