The Frankfurt stock market rebounded to a new record close yesterday, having weakened on Monday. Dealers said the market had been encouraged by a very strong dollar, a firm bond market, and some encouraging earnings reports, especially for banks. The German bond market also rose sharply, and the average yield on government issues fell by 0.05 point to 4.76 per cent, the lowest in its history.
Paris CAC-40: 2,617.52 (-16.96)
The Paris Bourse suffered a substantial loss yesterday having hit, record highs on Monday. Early in the session, the indicator reached an all-time high of 2,658.62 points, but later moved down again. Traders said the loss was due mainly to profit-taking.
Milan Mibtel: 12,238 (-123)
The Milan stock market suffered a setback and traders said it was still in a correction phase following the sharp bull run in January. It was pulled down yesterday by the feeble bond market and the lira.
