Congratulations to our four winning portfolios in week one of the Sharetrack 100 competition. Each notched up gains of more than 50 per cent since registration. Interestingly, none of the winners registered early enough for bonus share eligibility.
Two of the four portfolios are managed by veteran Sharetrack 100 player Mr Val McDermott, an accountant from Limerick. The other winning portfolio strategists are Mr Thomas McDonnell a teacher from Artane, and another veteran, Mr Tom Turley from Kells, Co Meath.
The four portfolios split the £1,000 (€1,270) cash prize between them and each contestant receives one year free share dealing from AIB.
All the portfolios had a varying combination of the following shares: Bula, ITG, Galen, Dell, Iona, Baltimore, BSkyB and Ryanair.
Mr Turley plans to split the winnings with his wife. "We`ll buy something utterly frivolous and enjoyable," he says. A percentage of the winnings will also be donated to the campaign to bring the Book of Kells back home - if even for a short time.
Mathematics teacher at St David's in Artane, Mr McDonnell, says he will donate his winnings to a school fund-raising effort for victims of the flooding in Mozambique.
Mr McDermott says he entered 30 or so portfolios using a sectoral strategy underpinned by Baltimore Technologies and software shares. He will use his £500 winnings to pay his telephone bill.

Hot on his heels is Mr Simon Boden's Pure Genius portfolio which achieved more than a 49 per cent return since registration. The only female student on the leaderboard is Ms Maeve Kneeshaw in ninth place with Team 15121 which notched up more than 47 per cent over the week.
