France besieged by Big Macs

HAMBURGER chain McDonalds is continuing its fearless foray through France

HAMBURGER chain McDonalds is continuing its fearless foray through France. It has just announced the creation of 30 new restaurants in French suburbs.

McDonalds is taking advantage of the French government's recently announced measures to help the largely immigrant-dominated suburbs.

The government is offering five years' exemption from company and local taxes to companies that bring in work. It is also offering a series of employment subsidies. McDonalds employs 25,000 people in France, 90 per cent of them in part-time positions.

McDonalds is already the biggest restaurant chain operating in France and it said this week that it would open another 80 restaurants in France this year, increasing its total in the country to 510.
