Three cheers for Gerry Robinson, Donegal-born chairman of British media group Granada.
Long known as one of most successful Irishmen on the corporate scene over the pond, The Guardian revealed this week that he was Britain's highest-earning chairman last year.
At £1.02 million sterling (€1.69 million), Mr Robinson's basic salary was strong enough, but additional payments of £5.26 million - including a cash bonus, gains on options and a long-term incentive plan - drove him straight to the top of the premier league.
Yet Mr Robinson remains far behind Britain's highest earning chief executive. With payments to Colt Telecom boss, Paul Chisholm, reaching £15.17 million last year, he clearly has a long way to go.
The stakes are indeed high at this level, but even failure is rewarded handsomely. The survey revealed that former British Airways boss, Bob Ayling, received £1.98 million when ousted earlier this year. Despite BA's poor performance, Bob's finances are clearly not ailing. Boom boom.
