Greenstar, the waste-management subsidiary of NTR, is to expand its domestic waste and recycling operations in Cork at a cost of €2 million.

From June 18th, an additional 50,000 households throughout Cork city suburbs and Midleton will be able to avail of Greenstar's service, including the area's only dedicated free monthly glass-collection service.

Greenstar, which has provided waste services to Cork businesses for more than 10 years, announced plans in February to start a domestic service in the city-centre and it has already signed up 2,000 customers.

"We are delighted to announce the extension of our domestic service in Cork and to meet the strong demand from Cork residents," said Keith McCormack, head of marketing.

Cork is the sixth county to be provided with a domestic service by Greenstar and the group is hoping to extend its offering across the whole county by the end of the year.

Greenstar spent €20 million last October acquiring two regional waste companies, one of which was Cork-based Hannon Recycling.
