HAULIERS protesting outside the Belview port terminal in Waterford yesterday ended their five-day work stoppage over non-payment of money allegedly owed to them.

The money relates to work carried out during the period of examiners hip of Bell Lines, which is now in liquidation.

The hauliers are understood to have resumed work on the basis of an undertaking by the liquidator, Mr David Hughes, the former examiner of the company, that he would seek to have any outstanding cheques due to them paid.

Waterford Fianna Fail TD, Mr Brendan Kenneally, said yesterday he had asked the Minister for Enterprise, Employment and Trade, Ms Harney, to launch an investigation into the collapse of Bell Lines. He said he made his request because of disturbing revelations made to him by various members of the Bell workforce who were laid off last weekend.
