Diagnostic healthcare provider Euromedic is investing a further €1 million in its scanning clinic in Cork. The company is adding a new MRI scanning suite to the facility.
The investment means that Euromedic has put in a total of €6 million into Cork and €45 million into the Republic as a whole.
MRI scans use magnetic imaging to allow doctors to examine and get detailed analysis of the brain, spine, joints, abdomen and heart.
Colm Davitt, chief executive of Euromedic Ireland, said yesterday that there were an estimated 10,000 people in Ireland waiting for routine diagnostic scans.
Technology and engineering group Siemens is providing the new equipment for the expansion of the clinic in Cork.
Euromedic Ireland employs more than 100 people in medical and administrative roles. It has three facilities in Dublin and one in Cork.
The company is part of Euromedic International, which is one of Europe’s biggest providers of public-private partnership healthcare facilities.
