CIE is provide car-hire facilities at Heuston Station, as part of its major overhaul of the railway buildings. The semi-state is seeking tenders from interested parties to provide car-hire and foreign exchange facilities.

The company is carrying out a £6 million refurbishment programme at the station. The carhire and foreign exchange facilities will be awarded on the basis of a four-year licensing agreement.

CIE chief executive, Mr Michael McDonnell has pledged that the station would be a place where customers can arrive and depart in comfort. CIE is also revamping Connolly Station. Last month it sold a site at the station in a novel deal which valued it at £5 million. Part of it involves the developer spending £3.5 million upgrading the railway concourse.
